St. Catherine's Episcopal Church

Our Faith Journey

We are a congregation of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of South Carolina and part of the world-wide Anglican Communion.  Founding members came from nearby churches where, when those churches voted to secede from the Episcopal Church in the US, they no longer welcomed us.  We proudly remained part of the national Episcopal Church community.

We began as a worship group meeting in a private home on December 2, 2012. Later that year we were invited to meet at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Florence where we gathered for Sunday afternoon services.

We adopted the name of St. Catherine of Alexandria for our young church, along with the following mission statement: "To nurture each other in the knowledge and love of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit -- and to share the Good News with all."

In October 2013 we moved to the Back Swamp School House on Pocket Road where we gathered for two years. We returned to Cross and Crown in November, 2015 thanks to our most generous Lutheran brothers and sisters. We work together to provide food for the chronically poor and literacy support for students in a local school.

St. Catherine's Episcopal Church was made a mission in The Episcopal Church in South Carolina on Feb. 22, 2014, at the 223rd Annual Diocesan Convention.

In March 2022 we moved to our first dedicated location, a former shoe store (Souls!) now converted to collaborative worship space.
